Festival

Date & Opening hours

Horst 2019 is a three-day festival, held on 13 - 14 - 15 September.

Friday starts at 16:00 and ends at 02:00.
Saturday starts at 14:00 and ends at 02:00.
Sunday starts at 14:00 and ends at 00:00.

Transport

Plane
There is a train going from Brussels National Airport (Zaventem) to Brussels-North Station every 10 minutes between 5am and midnight, 7 days a week. The ride takes 18 minutes and costs € 12,70.

Try to avoid booking inbound flights to the Brussels South airport (Charleroi) as you’ll need to take an airport operated shuttle bus to Brussels-Midi Station before taking the train to Brussels-North Station.

Train
Horst promotes public transport as the main option to travel to and from the festival. By train and shuttle bus is the easiest way to reach the festival.

There is a frequent connection between all major cities and Vilvoorde. Trains to Vilvoorde run every 15 minutes from Brussels-North Station and every 20 minutes from Antwerp Central Station. Train service, dependently on your destination, stops around 00:00. Train tickets are not included your in ticket.

Once in Vilvoorde Station, you take the festival shuttle bus, these go about every 20 minutes. Admission is included in your ticket.

Shuttle service
Once in Vilvoorde Station you can take the festival shuttle bus, these drive every 20 minutes during the course of the festival until midnight. After midnight the shuttle service runs between Horst and Brussels Central Station (Putterij). Admission is included in your ticket.

Bus
We're looking into group travel options from Leuven, Antwerp and Ghent. More info on timings and tickets will follow soon.

Bike
Biking to ASIAT, Vilvoorde is easy. Follow the signs in and around Vilvoorde and park your bike for free nearby the main entrance.

Car
Horst is reachable by car. There will be a parking space close to the festival terrain. Note that parking has to be paid upon arrival and is limited in capacity.

Uber
Uber operates in and around the Brussels area. Vilvoorde falls within this Uber serviced area.

Taxi
The Brussels region has several Taxi companies. If you want to use Taxi services we advise you to book these in advance.

Shuttle service

Location

Horst is located in Vilvoorde-North. The address is Kerkhofstraat 1, 1800 Vilvoorde, Belgium.

Vilvoorde-North comprises a strategically located zone north of the city. This to be developed district connects the city center, the Darse, and the Senne and encloses a potential, green recreation zone. The city of Vilvoorde recently purchased ASIAT, a former military terrain with iconic cooling towers as a backdrop. It's the first to be developed part of Vilvoorde-North.

ASIAT comprises 6 hectares of urban space with over twenty warehouses, all shaped in different sizes and arranged within a maze of corridors and urban rooms. The former defense workplace, nearby the Zenne with iconic cooling towers serving as a backdrop, will be reimagined to a new urban district of Vilvoorde - a suburb north of Brussels.

Not all parts of the terrain will be accessible during the festival. Please do not go wandering in closed-of areas or buildings.

Volunteers

Volunteers are an integral part of the festival. You can either work before, during or after the festival. If you would like to be a part of Horst 2019 as an individual or as a group send us an e-mail at info@horstartsandmusic.com

Press enquiries

Horst welcomes and invites (relevant) media representatives to cover the festival. For accreditation send us an e-mail and state the necessary information: name of/link to media, name of the applicant and the type of coverage (reviews, interviews, audio, video, photos, etc).

Tickets

Horst offers one-day tickets and weekend tickets for both the festival and camping. Tickets are now on sale and can be bought through the website. Refunds aren’t available. For ticket support please get in touch with Tickoweb.

Food & drinks

Food and drinks in any kind of containers and/or wrapping are not allowed on the festival site. Horst offers a wide range of food and drinks and we need the revenue of these sales to be able to organise the festival.

Please drink moderate and responsible.

Drugs policy

We have a zero-tolerance policy and discourage you to bring drugs (including soft drugs) to the event. Public use of drugs at the event will result in removal. Please respect these regulations.

Reduce your impact

Be aware of your impact. Plan your trip ahead, don't leave stuff behind, dispose your waste properly.
We will be working with a reusable cup system. You can find more info about this at the different bars on the terrain. Respect the site and be considerate to other visitors and your environment.

Disability access

The festival and almost all the stages are accessible for visitors in wheelchairs.
Please inform us of your visit and we’ll make sure to provide you with the necessary information and assist.

Money

You’ll be able to pay with Payconiq, you can also buy tokens by cash and card on the festival site.

Lockers

There will be lockers will available at the festival. Prices will follow soon.

Kids

Children aged 12 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.

The organisation

Horst is organized by Onkruid, a multidisciplinary studio combining expertise in architecture, visual arts, marketing, music & culture to further develop the creative context of our cities. Onkruid develops actions, interventions or events that unite people & cultivates parts of the social wasteland.

Camping

Vans & campers

No vans, campers, caravans or cars are allowed on the campsite during the festival.

Check-in/-out

The campsite opens Friday 13th of September on 15:00 and closes on Monday 16th of September 2019 at 13:00.

Food & drinks

Food and drinks in glass containers are not allowed on the campsite. Horst offers a brunch for all campsite ticket holders. The festival holds a wide range of food and drinks.

Tickets

Horst offers € 45 weekend camping tickets, this ticket includes 3 deluxe brunches.
Camping tickets per day are limited, cost € 20 and go on sale in August depending on availability.

Exhibition

Dates & Opening hours

The exhibition runs from 14th of July until the 15th of September 2019.

The exhibition, including access to the cooling towers, is open and free of access on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 - 21:00.

The exhibition will be recontextualised and reopened for the festival on 13 - 14 - 15 of September 2019.

During the festival you need a festival ticket to access the exhibition.

Guided tours

Guided tours are organized every Saturday and Sunday during the exhibition, they start at 15:00 and are free of charge. The meeting point is at the centrally located Paradeplein.

Vernissage

The Opening of the Exhibition takes place on Sunday 14.07 and runs from 14:00 till 23:00. The vernissage is free of access and includes a diverse program with talks, music, guided tours, lectures food and drinks. 

More info on the program will be announced on the website and social media.

Artist nights

These are a series of both public and private gatherings, talks, communal dinners and exchanges with a carefully curated selection of participants. The tackled topics align the preoccupations of Horst arts & music with the specificity of ASIAT as a – to be developed – new part of the city. Artist nights takes place on 25.07 - 08.08 - 28.08.

Lab

What does a lab look like?

Every lab is shaped by an ambitious result that requires collaboration and creativity. Together with a team of inspiring & international creatives you work towards a concrete project. These projects often have an outcome during the festival or exhibition. Depending on the project ambition, the lab is shaped accordingly.

The lab is designed to inspire and develop its participants, it's celebrated with a public momentum.

The Labs for Architecure, Design and Music will take place between the 3rd of July and the 14th of July with starting dates varying depending on the lab. The Art Lab is divided into three moments: 25.05, 08.08 and 28.08.

Who can apply?

The lab is divided in different classes focussing on both artistic and creative industries. It's intended for anyone with a love for arts, architecture, design, music and a desire to be involved in its evolution.

We're for looking for people with a passion for learning and sharing, enthusiasm and interest across industries and a truly global, open-minded perspective. Whatever your profile is, you will be considered based on your application form.

The application

All applicants need to fill out a questionnaire, ranging from personal philosophies to motivation, personal experience and track record. You can attach a portfolio to emphasize your skills or ideas, choose something that you're the most proud of.

The application process starts mid-May and is open for 14 days. Selected participants will be notified at the beginning of June.

Enrollment fee

The enrollment fee is € 100 and includes ground transport, breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation. This doesn't apply for the Art Labs. The enrollment fee for each Art Lab moment is € 60, including welcome coffee, lunch and dinner. 

Transport

You're expected to arrange your own in and outbound transport to the lab location, Vilvoorde. All (local) transport during the class will be taken care of.

Accommodation

Your enrollment fee includes accommodation, you might be asked to bring certain necessities such as a sleeping bag or sheets. More info will follow soon. This doesn't apply for the Art Labs. The Art Lab moments don't require accomodation, but we'll give you suggestions on where to sleep close to Vilvoorde/Bussels. 

Food

Your enrollment fee includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Participants

The amount of participants varies per workshop. You'll be carefully selected and diverse group of people both local, national and international. Your birthday should be on or before September 1, 2000.

Language

The main spoken language during the labs is English.
