Exploring the tension between high culture and low culture aesthetics. Across one week of rigorous research, experimentation, and production, participants will redefine the concept of ‘low culture’ souvenirs and each design and produce souvenir items.
Using the archetypal model of the tourist souvenir stands as a basis for exploration - participants will experiment with the idea of the ‘souvenir’ across multiple contexts, exploring the conceptual space in which ‘high culture’ meets ‘low culture’.
Each participant will gain experience in physical production, conceptual design thinking, and professional practice.
Lab participants are a mix of profiles with a creative background. Required skills or expertise are a design or art background in graphic, textile, product, fashion or type.
This recap dates from the Design Lab back in 2019.
