In 2020 the world has been turned upside down. As a planet, as a society, as humans we're challenged in ways we could never imagine. Our 'normal' has disappeared, it's mutating. Although much of the current debate is about short-term choices, this pandemic offers an opportunity to do things differently.

In the summer of 2020 Horst slowed down the rhythm. Our home Asiat transformed to a space for dialogue, thinking and knowledge. As you simply can't transform what you don't understand. But moreover, we needed happiness, social connection, common desires and wonder to look beyond the current horizon. Horst believes in the irrational power of art and creativity to shape those new ideas. We wanted to create meaningful experiences to tap into that potential.

In addition we engaged ourselves locally by researching what is at stake. We want to foster valuable partnerships for the coming years by opening up our space to others. We connected stories, ideas, organizations & generations.

RESTAURANT CLUB

An abundant indoor pond and garden, a quality three-course dinner and a variety of DJ-sets & performances. These three pillars defined Horst's Restaurant Club. In an open-roof warehouse we connected with each other.

Left in the hands of charismatic masters of ceremony, who infused your dinner with friends into a playful and interactive evening.

SLEEPING CONCERTS

Artists were invited for tranquil and dreamy soundscapes and, ambient dj-sets. We spent the night together, under the care of a musician, and shared a communal breakfast in the morning.

Flying on the raven’s wing was a cross-disciplinary exhibition appropriating Asiat in Vilvoorde as a site of new promises. The artistic interventions hovered between autonomous artworks, inventive dancefloors, collaborative commissions and circular architecture. We welcomed Aline Bouvy (BE), Daan Gielis (BE), Sonia Gomes (BR), Rashid Johnson (US), Rotor (BE), Tarek Lakhrissi (FR), Leopold Banchini (CH), Grace Ndiritu (UK/KE) and Marinella Senatore (IT) as participating artists and architects. Their contributions, mostly site-specific commissions, adorned and reinvigorated the crumbling architecture of Asiat. Their works spanned video, audiovisual interventions, sculpture and installation.

Furthermore, the pavilions that doubled as dance floors and stages for the Horst Arts & Music Festival, inscribed themselves in Horst’s ongoing research on stage design, architecture and art. They served as autonomous works or places of encounter during the exhibition, and were transformed into electric, energising platforms for music, performance and lectures during the Festival.
