fritz-kolab returns! Calling young architects to dream, design, and deliver a space at Horst Festival 2026.
Horst and fritz-kola launch their second open call, inviting young architects and collectives to design and build a new spatial installation for the 2026 Festival. Rooted in shared values of sustainability, creativity, and community, both partners aim to empower emerging talent and rethink how public space can bring people together. This edition challenges designers to transform the Asiat Park fire pit into a covered gathering place that celebrates warmth, connection, and circular design. The project encourages bold, sensitive interpretations that nurture social encounters while remaining feasible and environmentally responsible. Selected participants will help shape a meaningful, long-term addition to the park’s evolving landscape.
Practicals
Applicants are asked to submit a short introduction to their practice, a rough conceptual sketch, and a brief description that outlines their spatial idea, sustainability approach, and envisioned social interactions around the fireplace. Five finalists will be chosen to present their proposals to a jury, receiving a €300 fee and the chance to be selected for full realisation. The winning team will enter an intensive development process with Horst’s production team, receiving design support, engineering guidance, and hands-on collaboration throughout pre-production and construction. The implementation takes place during the Horst Atelier, a one-week collective building residency offering meals, tools, community spirit, and a learning-by-doing environment. In total, the project provides €3,000 in design compensation, €6,250 in production budget, and optional €750 travel support.
This open call offers emerging designers visibility at an internationally recognized festival, access to a strong creative network, and the opportunity to realise a lasting architectural intervention. The resulting installation should be functional, imaginative, and socially engaging, embodying circularity and the shared ethos of Horst and fritz-kola. The timeline spans from the December launch to final construction in April 2026, with the project unveiled during Horst Festival in May. All applicants can submit questions during the Q&A period, join an optional site visit, or rely on the provided site video for context.
